well dang!

$10 from the City Paper for the 27 writers blurb. That's just what I need to eat lunch at Shahi Grill, one of the best Indian/Paki buffets in town.
That $10 more then the Urbanite gave me for this:

Nabokov on Kafka

Caves was the first Matthew Simmons anything that I ever read. It made me think, "Damn. A man who dates caves. Jesus Horse Christ! This is amazingly simple, but huge." And then Adam Robinson published A Jellow Horse and I skipped work to read it (I actually was having a shitty mental day and needed a mental break mentally). Horse put me back into a good spot. Thanks Matthew!

Jellow Horse was out of print until now. You can buy it again right here *click! And you should before Terry Gilliam options it and FSG signs Simmons to a 3 book contract. You!

The Road - Cormac McCarthy - John Hillcoat

"Fortunately, the rumourmongers were wrong -- Hillcoat’s vision is forthright and brutal."

Weekend Report

More work on Publishing Genius’ logo and website, forgotten IDs in Fells, guts spilled, I missed Justin’s band (again), We Used to be Family blows us all away, Shaun Preston breaks my car, how is the line for the Taco Bell on Rt. 40 so long after 1am?, photographing the painting of Adam Robinson, Blake Butler nails it, Blake Butler runs the poker table (and wins the eagle), Dan Rumain breaks what Shaun Preston didn’t break on my car, Dukes of Hazard style through the moon roof, Dan Deacon tries to sneak in and out, SALTS! continually impressed by Arkham Asylum’s storytelling, wondering what will become of all those rifles, wondering why I love rifles so much, wondering if the emotional violence I've suffered as an adolescent has made me more violent, insane burgers by J&M, fire pit staring, smores.

blog question of the blog day

So, the main character in the new MS that I'm working on sorta imagines a lot of fun/medieval-ish things like goblins crawling through the trees that surround his house and his brother, Devon, turning into a strange satyr type being. All of this is so natural when you're young. Creativity flows unfettered and the world is magically organic. Jamie mentioned, when he was a kid and playing a lot of D&D, that he used to look for trap doors when his mom took him shopping at department stores. I love it. I used to imagine a force field surround our house before going to bed at night to make myself feel safe - imagining robots and mounted lasers protecting the perimeter.
.
Question: What did you used to (or still do) see?
