Justin and Haneen on the Marc Steiner Show
From the website:
We're joined by Haneen Alshujairy, who fled her home in Iraq with her family in 2003, and Justin Sirois, a writer living here in Baltimore. They are the co-founders of the Understanding Campaign, which seeks to teach everyone in the world one word of Arabic. Fhm (fuh-hem’), literally means understanding. Their hope is that by learning one simple word, people can begin to bridge the gulf between Arab and Western cultures.
Read Michael Corbin's piece about the Understanding Campaign, One Word at at Time, in this month's Urbanite Magazine.

WYPR (NPR) interview with Justin and Haneen speaking for the first time ever on the phone
No kidding. After almost three years of knowing each other, after collaborating on two books and the Understanding Campaign, Justin and Haneen talk on the phone for the first time. Crazy right? Who does stuff like that? We do! I hope those amazing NPR guys didn’t edit out us laughing at each other for 30 seconds. Adorable.
Tune in to WYPR (Baltimore, Fredrick, and Ocean City, Maryland) or go to http://www.wypr.org/ at noon tomorrow – Friday the 24th – to hear the interview. A repeat broadcast will air at 7pm.
AS A BONUS, anyone who pledges more than 50 dollars between 12pm and 7pm tomorrow will get a Newlights Press print. It’s hand letter-pressed and beautiful. It’s perfect for your office next to your presidential medal of valor.

Narrow House on NPR

Leading up to a reading at the Marfa Book Company tonight, Justin Sirois and Jamie Gaughran-Perez will be on the local NPR station in a few hours (12noon Central; 1pm Eastern; like anyone in Mountain or Pacific cares) gabbing about Narrow House, reading a thing or two, and missing Lauren Bender muchly. You can even listen to it online (I think):
