Post Typography - Lettering & Type: Creating Letters and Designing Typefaces
"Lettering & Type: Creating Letters and Designing Typefaces, the new type design and lettering book by Post Typography is coming out in October. To celebrate, Post Typography is having a book launch party on October 29 in Baltimore at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The culmination of this party will be Fan Letter: Twenty-six local, national, and international designers/artists/musicians give a two-minute ode to an alphabet letter or typographic character."
I chose the letter y. The assignment is open - create something that will be shown at the event for two minutes. Time to think...

Publishing Genius - Adam Robinson interviewed in Higher Ed
Variety managed to get the name of the publisher wrong, nor did it bother to correct the error when this was pointed out. It might make sense for Robinson to change to the publishing house's telephone listing to “Genius Press” -- at least if it actually had one."

Young Muslims turn to technology to connect

Young Muslims, pictured here in Afghanistan, are increasingly using technology to engage the world.
The 23-year-old says the complexity of who she is as a Muslim is being distorted by extremists and the media coverage of them.
Channeling her frustration, she started Mideastyouth.com, a Web site she describes as a place for young people in the region to "show a different side of our religion" and discuss topics big and small, taboo and not.
