2011 - Year in Review


Half way through the first draft of The Last Book of Baghdad, Falcons presales begin, Lowe’s hates Muslims, Connor Willumsen draws for Falcons, I wrote a few poems, submitted my poetry manuscript to Newlights Press, published in Stamp Stories, designed a book cover for Brian Allen Carr, Paul Bromer blurbs Falcons (says she can’t wait for her son to read it), Remember Fallujah Week, published in Dark Sky Magazine, slightly enriched uranium found in Fallujah, Blackwater videogame totally bombs, published in Big Lucks, resubmitted to the Baker Awards, took Mary shooting, made the Mancade, read at MICA with Michael Kimball and got paid, some great videogames came out, Frank Miller’s Holy Terror is racist, in the City Paper’s Big Books issue, read to well over 500 people at the BMA, Al Lingis sent me books, The Literature Party, my parents visit, ugh… never thought that would happen to me, Pub Genius gets an office, met Mary Pulcinella, victory in Libya, Lion Fingers, Leigh Bender is better, kicked out the worst roommate I’ve ever had, Phil Cashiola makes the best burgers ever, CA Conrad wins a Pew Fellowship, Aftermath – the play – amazing, Dark Sky Books takes DMBSTRCK, designed a book for Dan Gutstein, Falcons edits, read with Manal Omar, gave $1,000 to the Iraqi Student Project, I end my BMA workshop with my class at the bar and the class lasts a full 3 hours (hour and a half over) success!, edited Everyday Genius (GIF Responses), Understanding Campaign in Baltimore Magazine, Austin with Bex and D, Marfa for the fourth time, read at University of Baltimore, Goucher students make a giant Fhm, Tim Hetherington dies, Adam and Steph write me a birthday song, published in Consequence Magazine, designed a flyer for Sweat Pants, designed another book cover for Brian Allen Carr, read in DC, met so many awesome people at AWP, Literature Party at the Black Cat sells out, Jamie and I grind Richard Nash on the dance floor, Putty Hill, read at Stephanie Barber’s house, Narrow House publishes Hum Who Hiccup, finally get all the UCampaign merch printed, Detroit gets a Robocop statue, internet blackout in Egypt, interviewed on Maryland Morning.
